Sabre Corporation opens facility to develop data driven travel technology

A Texas-based company specializing in travel-based technology that services clients ranging from airlines to car rentals announced the opening of a new lab in Boston. Sabre Corporation officially launched the facility that will examine and research the possibilities of travel data. In turn, additional technology surrounding the development of machine learning and artificial intelligence will also be explored for further commercial applications.

“Sabre has a long history of technology leadership in retailing, distribution and fulfillment of the $1.7 trillion travel marketplace,” said CEO Sean Menke at the official ribbon cutting ceremony.

“Over the past two years, we have focused on reinvigorating and transforming Sabre to continue to accelerate innovation to the market. Today we take an important step in that journey by opening our Innovation Lab in Boston, where we look forward to exciting developments that will result from partnerships with our customers and technology partners.”

Boston was chosen due to its vibrant high-tech Seaport district that’s populated by a large array of companies and post-secondary education institutions established to research information research. The plan is to seek and work with partners in the community to help Sabre’s software engineers play its part in contributing to the travel industry’s next generation of innovation.

The facility consists of a workspace that’s more than 10,000 square feet and is expected to employ more than 60 people. The new Boston operation adds to Sabre’s presence in Massachusetts, as the corporation already has a hospitality solutions office in nearby Watertown.

The company claims to have already generated nearly $4 billion in revenue in 2018, providing new technology including Software as a Service (SaaS) distribution networks to such travel operations as airlines, hotels and travel agencies. That same year, Sabre contributed such integration tools as GetThere and Rocketrip to rental car users and other frequent travelers, who reportedly save up to 30 percent of travel costs. The company also struck an agreement with South Africa-based Club Travel, which will use Sabre Red Workspace technology that has a data-driven desktop and intuitive interface enabling greater convenience in selecting a wide array of travel options, including those from 40 rental car companies.

Besides being a technology provider Sabre also runs an international travel marketplace that’s responsible for processing more than $120 billion in spending in the industry via connecting purchasers and suppliers. The conglomerate, which reportedly employs some 9,000 employees around the globe, also operates in more than 160 countries.
