Car Rental Company Opens at High-tech Airport Terminal

Enterprise Holdings launches an alternative destination for Seattle client base

The world’s largest car rental company has launched an initiative designed to increase convenience for its Seattle-based customer base by opening a branch office at a new high-tech airport near the city. Enterprise Holdings announced Monday the opening of its latest outlet at the Passenger Terminal at Paine Field, which started operations earlier in March just outside of Everett, Wash. The new terminal is predicted to service some 1.4 million travelers annually.

While Everett is nearly 30 miles north of Seattle, Enterprise is assuring customers that the convenience offered by the new state-of-the-art facility will more than make up for that distance. The company will offer shuttle service to the office from every flight that touches down on the tarmac of the new airport.

At this point, Paine Field accommodates up to 24 flights daily with its two-gate terminal, which means far less congestion of air and passenger traffic than what customers would otherwise experience at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The Enterprise office is also running daily from 4 a.m. to 1 a.m. to ensure car rental customers that they’ll be able to book and drive a vehicle from Paine Field once they’re off the plane. An added benefit is that service is also available to customers who rent cars from National and Alamo, as both are owned by Enterprise.

The company will likely need to market its presence at Paine Field rather aggressively, as the new airport also is on four public transportation routes and accommodates a number of taxi, ride-sharing and hotel shuttle services.

“As the leading developer of private airports in the country, we strive to create a customer-centric experience for travelers,” said Brett Smith, CEO of Propeller Airports, which built Payne Field. “Enterprise’s commitment to excellent customer service aligns with our own customer-focused culture. We’re confident Enterprise will extend our passion for creating superior customer experiences beyond our terminal.”

Currently, Paine Field services only Alaska Airlines with most of its destinations located on the west coast. Between the two airlines, direct flights from Everett go to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orange County, Phoenix, Portland (Ore.), San Diego, San Francisco and San Jose. However, United Airlines will start its operations at the new terminal on March 31, by offering flights to Denver and San Francisco.

Besides serving the greater Seattle area, Paine Field is also targeting the roughly one million residents of North Puget Sound seeking a more convenient alternative to the Seattle-Tacoma airport.
